Family Christmas Traditions

My parents had a tradition when I was younger where on Christmas Eve at 7pm, we would ride around the neighborhood and see all the lights and decorations on everybody's house. What a treat that was! So, now that I have children of my own, we follow that tradition too. Although, this year for the past week, we've been going out every night to see the lights, the "ooohs" and "wow!" from them is priceless! :-) I would love to hear your family's tradition for Christmas.

Two of my candle drawing entrants emailed their family traditions as well and was such a pleasure to read (one brought tears to my eyes and the other one had me in stitches, lol) and I have their permission to share them with you and spread the Christmas spirit and love around. :-)

Hi Mary!
My most memorable Christmas's were when I was younger (by at least 45 years) and we would go to my grandparents house. Bushia (grandma in Polish) made sure everyone was there She always gave everyone of her grandchildren a silver dollar. Then my Uncle Richey always played Santa (he was a perfect Santa belly and all) to the delight of all of us kids. One year really stands out because I remember my uncle coming downstairs (after Santa left) carrying a suitcase. I asked where he was going and from the look on my aunt's face I thought she'd pass out. We always had fun at my grandparents house because that was the one day out of the year that everyone got together and you could "feel" the love and joy in the air. We might be poor in monetary things but "love" is abundant! Merry Christmas! -- Nancy from MI.

Hi Mary :o)
I LOVE driving around seeing everyones Christmas lights! Some people get pretty fancy. We put lights up but just the basics LOL But I know our tradition is making a gingerbread house and sitting on it New Years Eve!! I know it sounds crazy but when my sister and I were young, we wanted to eat the gingerbread house as mom was just going to throw it out (now that I think of it that is gross we were eating the dusty ginger bread house LOL) so my sister and I said nooooo we want to eat it!! Well it was 3 weeks old and we were trying so hard to break it. On New years night we tried to sit on it to break it, because of the royal icing, it held together so well. I think it was my dad that finally broke it. So from then on that was our tradition, now I passed it on to my kiddos. Its fun to see who can break it first. Sometimes we needed a pillow under our bottoms as it got quite uncomfortable!! Hope you have a great birthday and all the best for the holiday season!!

Smiles,
Rhonda
